Formed in January 2013 at the Royal Academy of Music, the Tritium Trio is a truly multinational ensemble, comprising Slovenian clarinettist Jernej Albreht, Swedish cellist Lydia Hillerudh, and Australian pianist Joseph Havlat. The foremost desire of the group is to explore repertoire other than pieces typically played by this ensemble type, in order to make rehearsals and performances as refreshing and enlightening as possible for both the trio and the audience they may have. In March 2017 they won the Audience Prize at the renowned St- Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, and have recently taken up the prestigious post as Royal Academy of Music Chamber Music Fellows for the 2017/18 academic year.

In their time together they have performed throughout London and across the UK, with concerts in Blackheath, Leatherhead, Bristol (Colston Hall), St. James’s Piccadilly (London), and frequently at the Royal Academy of Music as part of the Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime concert series. They won all prizes that were open to them at the Academy, including the Harold Craxton Prize in 2017 for their performance of the Brahms Clarinet Trio op. 114, and the Isaacs/Pirani Trio Prize in 2015 for their interpretation of Zemlinsky’s Clarinet Trio op. 3.

The trio was selected as Park Lane Group Young Artists 2016/17, where they gave an evening concert with two world premieres at St John’s Smith Square as part of Park Lane Group’s Diamond Jubilee season. The trio were artists in residence on the Advanced Composition Course at Dartington International Summer School and Festival in summer 2018, working with composition students and Eleanor Aalberga. They will return to Dartington this year to work with Harrison Birtwistle.

As a result of their interest in new music the trio has previously premiered and recorded numerous new works, including six written by Academy composers during their tenure as fellows as well as music by Joseph, and have also recently recorded their first CD featuring English 20th century clarinet trio repertoire at Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton, which will be released on the Prima Facie label in 2019.
